Starting a Blog in My Laundry Room

So why the laundry room you ask?

I work in the laundry room because it is quiet. I work in the laundry room because it has a large window. I work in the laundry room because our dryer makes the most lovely white noise.

Mostly I blog in our laundry room because myself, my husband, our 10-month-old, and 2 years old all live in a 1000 sq ft house.

This is not a tiny house. But it is a small house.

The current sleeping situation is such that once both kids are asleep, the only private, quiet place available is in my laundry room.

A Room of One’s Own… eat your heart out Virginia Wolfe.

Here is the thing. I love it.

I love almost everything about my life.

But it could be better. And that is what this blog is about.

Making your life better. Making your life the best it can be.

I do not claim to have all of the answers. If anything, I have mostly questions. But I am motivated and determined to find the answers.

Life is at its best when we are free to navigate our own path. When we have the time to be idle, to think, to revel in ourselves and in one another.

This freedom does not come easy though.

We often work jobs we do not love. This drains us physically. Mostly it drains us mentally. It drains our spirit. We do not have the capacity for the aforementioned items.

It is sneaky. Life.

“Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I’d something more to say.” -Pink Floyd, Time

Yes, I just quoted Pink Floyd. Deal with it.

My Dad played this album often when we were kids. He loves this song. It is a great song.

Notice Roger Waters mentioned this concept of time just slipping by as an English phenomenon. It is universal. It not only spans the globe, but it also spans decades, centuries.

Squandering time. Unintentionally.

More specifically spending our time with the best of intentions but without a clear purpose.

“Which of us is not saying to himself–which of us has not been saying to himself all his life: “I shall alter that when I have a little more time”? We never shall have any more time. We have, and we have always had, all the time there is.”
― Arnold Bennett, How to Live on 24 Hours a Day

This one will do you in. Death by a thousand cuts.

You busy yourself with minutiae. Telling yourself once this one last thing is done, then I will do that one thing.

That one thing that often exists like a mirage. You know you will get to it, but it is always just out of reach. That one thing that you know is hard, but in the long run, will change your life in unimaginable ways. That one thing that sounds equal parts thrilling and terrifying.

I am the queen of minutiae. I am also very savvy in the space of perpetually putting everyone else’s needs in front of mine. I can rationalize in my head how illogical this is, and yet the irrational prevails.

This is my one thing. This blog. It is equal parts thrilling and terrifying.

So begins my journey. To self evaluate, to grow and to learn.

But most importantly, to blog about it.

I am so very excited to have you along for the ride! I hope that hearing my story will help to inspire and guide others along their journey.

I would love to hear from you! Are you able to prioritize effectively in your life? Do you feel like the choices you make bring you fulfillment? What was the last thing you did that scared you?
